After growth over the past three years from 150 to 700 to almost 2,000 participants, this year's Zombie Walk should be full of surprises. And it's just around the corner. Stay tuned as more details emerge, but in the meantime, here's what we know:

Walk Route

Similar to last year, the route will officially start near the intersection of Georgia and Sligo Avenues, run through Ellsworth Drive in downtown Silver Spring, and end at the AFI Silver Theatre. We seemed to pick up a lot of people along that stretch of Georgia Avenue that were camped out at various establishments. This year, we're looking into the possibility of some additional road closures (south of Jackie's and Sidebar) that could make a central congregating place more feasible. Stay tuned for details on that.

The walk will officially start about 8:45 PM, so if you're coming early to celebrate, take that into consideration.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Last year we had a couple of minor incidents from some overzealous zombies banging on things. Windows, in particular.

PLEASE, for the love of all that is undead and rotting, PLEASE don't go banging on stuff that doesn't belong to you. We want to keep this event alive (you know what I mean), healthy (ditto), and family friendly for all involved.

In the meantime, start brainstorming on your costumes for this year and stay tuned here (and to other resources below) for updates as they happen.

The Movie

Special thanks to the folks at AFI Silver Theatre for this year's selection, DEAD SNOW (Død Snø). The IMDB listing has more info, plus you can ALREADY BUY TICKETS ONLINE through AFI. Movie starts at 9:45 PM. I recommend you get your tickets as soon as you can. If you've tried to get them before, you know how fast the annual zombie movie sells out.

As an added bonus, the great people at AFI have added a Midnight showing of SHAUN OF THE DEAD for a rockin' double feature. And yes, tickets are already available online for that as well.
