Success at the 2009 Silver Spring Zombie Walk

Thanks to everyone who made this year's Zombie Walk an unmitigated sucess. We thought we would be good to get 200 or so participants, but a couple of days before the walk, the pre-sale tickets for the movie were on track to sell out (that's 400 right there), and AFI had to add an overflow show for Shaun of the dead. Then media reports are putting the numbers at close to 700. That may be a little optimistic, but still - pretty impressive all the same.

As the crowd grew, we also became concerned that there would be issues with crowd control and a smackdown by law enforcement. Boy, were we wrong. Mad props go out the the Montgomery County Police Department for showing up to block off lanes of traffic on Georgia, Fenton and Colesville. I spoke with one of the officers in front of the Quarry House, and the event was on their sheet for patrol, so they knew what was going on. Everything went much smoother thanks to them.

There are planty of debriefs on the interwebs, so we'll provide links to everything here. In the meantime, mark your calendars for a tentative date of Saturday, October 30, 2010, for next year's zombie walk. Details will start trickling in next summer. In the meantime, go for the brains.
